The Don’ts of Social Media

July 11, 2011

While the popular, ubiquitous communication tool that is social media is now at the hands of every Internet user, there still remains a certain code of success that not everyone seems to be conscious of. Not everything flies on social media platforms.

Jonathan Baskin writes about the 4 (interestingly termed) P’s of social media failure:

  • Promoting creative branding
  • Playing to consumer diversions
  • Purporting to be social
  • Pissing away attention for short-term awareness
Although social media has turned the market from a business-driven one to a consumer-driven one, Baskin explains that there still needs to be an emphasis on creativity and that as businesses and corporations, we must put something out there that is attention-worthy.
