The Costs of Salon Renovations

August 10, 2012

If you are just refreshing your current image, changing a few light fixtures, re-upholstering some furniture, applying a fresh coat of paint and adding a few decorative pieces, expect to spend $15 to $25 a square foot. If you touch the salon structure, change your space allocation and partially renovate a few key areas, add another $25 to $50 a square foot. For a total renovation project while maintaining most of the engineering work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC etc.) you need to plan on spending between $50 and $75 a square foot.

For a complete salon overhaul, starting pretty much from scratch, budget at least $75 to $125 a square foot, then deduct any kind of allowance or support you may get from your landlord, vendor or distributor. Remember that computers, software, entertainment systems, hospitality and telephone equipment should be budgeted separately due to a shorter amortization period and different financing method.
